Google TV Eleven Months Later

Image
Eight months ago, I wrote about Google TV not being able to succeed at the $300/$400 price range. See full article here,  previous Google TV article. Google must have read my article or maybe microeconomics started to make sense for them. The previously $300 Logitech Revue  is now $100! And the previously $400  Sony Internet TV Blu-Ray Player  is now $250! I officially feel "dirty" for buying Apple TV for $100. Ugh. How was I suppose to know that the Logitech Revue price was going to drop by 67%? At least I am not in the camp that bought the Logitech Revue for $300. If you are looking for a machine to stream Netflix onto your television, buy the Google TV Logitech Revue. If you are looking for a Blu-Ray player buy the Sony Google TV model. Since my last post about Google TV, "The Goog" has bought Motorola Mobility. Motorola Mobility not only makes phones, but have the rights to a large amount of cable and satellite boxes. So you know Google is going ...

Tablet War: iPad 2 vs Xoom

Image
VS. The mobile phone war between Apple's iOS and Google's Android OS has been going on since days of the iPhone 3G and the HTC G1, way back..... in October of 2008. After much wailing, grinding and mashing of teeth, Android has overtaken iOS as the most used operating system on smartphones in the US. But with the iPhone debuting on Verizon, who knows what the outcome will be.... And yet, in spite of this uncertainty, a new war commences between iOS and Android, this time in the tablet sector. Like before, Apple drew first blood with the iPad.  A worthy Android challenger has finally risen in the Mortorola Xoom, but can the Xoom stand up to the iPad 2? You will decide. Check both of them out at your local stores.  The Xoom is out as of now, at Verizon stores, and the iPad 2 goes on sale March 11. Here's a breakdown of the basics: APPLE iPAD 2 MOTOROLA XOOM 9.7", 1024 x 768 resolution 10.1", 1280 x 800 resolution 1.34 pounds, .34" ...

The Itch for Netflix

Image
Ever since I got my own place, I felt like three was an emptiness. In the soul of my apartment was an abyss created by the lack of Netflix. Recently, I was able to save up money to buy a product that could stream Netflix onto my TV.* As always, I explored all options with as much objectivity as my rationale could afford. Here were the challengers: Google TV:  $300/$400. Gorgeous user interface, replaces the HDMI output of your TV feed. $400 dollar box has Blu-ray.  Blue-ray Player with Built in Wi-fi:  ~$180. Self explanatory. Roku:  $60/$80/$100. Need $80 dollar box and above for 1080p resolution. Apple TV:  $100. Syncs to iTunes.   Xbox:  $200/$300/$400. $400 dollar Xbox comes with the revolutionary Kinect system. To stream Netflix, a $50/yr Xbox Live fee is required. PS3:  $300/$400. Comes with Blu-ray. Wii:  $200. Plays Wii game. Wii motion system has become outdated by the Kinect. Some systems had Blu-ray, which is...
